Cepcans edge MICSA by hairline in goodwill match
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) bested the Mactan Island Chess and Scrabble Association (MICSA) by a hairline in their 21-board goodwill match over the weekend at the Super Metro activity center in Lapu-Lapu City.
Led by no less than their president Engr. Jerry Maratas, the Cepcans lost in the first round, 11.5-9.5, but bounced back with aplomb in round two, 12.5-8.5 to win by the narrowest of margins, 21-20.
Aside from Maratas, CEPCA is also composed of Reynaldo Flores, Peterson Sia, Zelberstein Torres, Jojo Muralla, Jonathan Canque, Mer Fernandez, Martin Kwan, Ruel Nuttal, Mandy Baria, Solon Bagalihog, Venz de la Torre, Norman Olayvar, Ronald Arnado, Jun Kidlat, Richard Ouano, Mike Calimlim, Maggie Dionson, John Velarde, Darian Vales, and Jerome Moncopa.
MICSA, on the other hand, is manned by Galileo Roma, Justin Flint Misa, Kraig Quinain, Raymund Abellana, Ruben Ngujo, Albert Rivera, Tsade Codilla, Richard Gohetia Sr., Tommy Tampus, James Abrantes, Ariel Cuizon, Amay Igot, Alkin Codilla, Arnold Amaba, Jovannie Corro, Wynard Labastida, Judy Tamala, Lando Torres, Diomedes Gelloano, Adelyn Bensi, and Jerom Moncopa.
Held in consonance the annual "Kadaugan sa Mactan" festivities, the event was made possible through the support of Lapu-Lapu City LGU headed by mayor Paz Radaza and sports commission chairman Harry Radaza. (FREEMAN)
