Cebu City is virtual CVIRAA champion

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines — Even if there is still two days of competition left, the Cebu City Niños is already considered as the virtual champ  after building an insurmountable lead after Day 5 of the 2018 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet here.

Niños now stands with 89 gold, 47 silver and 55 bronze medals.  Bohol is trailing at second with 24-20-28 gold-silver-bronze medals, while Cebu Province is at third with 12-27-18 medal tally.

Cebu City finished strong in gymnastics after sweeping all 12 golds with six silvers and eight bronzes in the rhythmic sportive event at the Dauis gymnasium.

Cebu City’s badminton squad also delivered two gold medals after dominating the boys and girls event, while its table tennis bets handed two golds plus a silver and bronze.

Khalil Justine Abella once again shone for Cebu City in archery after claiming the 30m event gold, while his teammate Christian Carerosa settled for bronze.

Niños also benefited from their jins impressive showing yesterday as they produced three golds in the elementary kyorugi and nine golds in the secondary sparring event.

Over at the Victoriano B. Tirol Jr. Sports Complex Aquatic Center, Cebu City tankers continued their medal haul with 11 golds plus six silvers and four bronzes.

Karen Mae Indaya went unstoppable in the secondary girls 400-meter freestyle, while Andrew Kim Remolino got a double gold via the 800m and 200m backstroke. Marielle Estreba also nabbed two golds, while Juliet Sedeno topped the elementary girls 50m backstroke event.

Meanwhile, University of San Carlos’ Mary Joy Loberanis ruled the secondary girls 800m run, while his teammate Martchan Torregosa dominated the 400m boys. Their teammates Jay Ayade, Gliezel Pelayre and Nino Vincent Colis also handed one silver medal apiece.

Also,  Abigail Sacan prevented Cebu City from a gold medal shutout in arnis after winning the individual espada y daga event. (FREEMAN)
