Warriors outlast Webmasters in Tuburan friendly

Gabby G. Malagar - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors reaffirmed their dominance over the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 80-72, during an exhibition match last Thursday night in Tuburan, Cebu.

USC also tamed UC in their battle for third place in the Enervon CESAFI Partner's Cup last week at the Cebu Coliseum.

Incoming CESAFI rookie Miguel Plata, USC's recruit from the University of Mindanao in Davao City, carried the Warriors on his lean shoulders, pumping in seven straight points that gave them their largest lead, 72-63, late in the fourth period.

The Webmasters responded with a 7-2 run in the final two minutes, but Nico Magat and Cameroonian Ahmed Salihou closed the game with a 6-0 bang to seal the deal for USC of coach Julian Macoy.

Plata finished with 12 points, but it was Ian Ortega and Nico Magat who topscored for USC with 14 points apiece.

Saed Quintao had a breakout performance of 22 points, albeit for a losing cause. Jan Michael Auditor also cahrted 22 markers for UC, which forged a 32-all deadlock at halftime only to fold up in the windup.

The scores

USC (80) - Ortega 14, Magat 14, Plata 12, Salihou 9, Rabat 8, Guardatio 6, Qie 6, Ollodo 5, Duran 4, Adlawan 3, Seno 2

UC (72) - Auditor 22, Quintao 22, Cabrera 18, Ampoon 6, Misa 4 Halftime: 32-all  (FREEMAN)
