Sunsport cage clinic gears for 18th season

- Marigold Lebumfacil -

CEBU, Philippines - Aspiring hoopsters could look forward to another exciting summer as Cebu’s longest cage clinic - the Sunsport Basketball Training Camp will kick off its 18th season on April 4 at the Sacred Heart Center Sports Club basketball courts along D. Jakosalem St., this city.

Aside from the fundamentals of the game such as proper shooting dribbling and passing, the training camp director and Salazar Institute of Technology (SIT) Skyblazers basketball team head coach Giovanni “Jojo” Romarate, will also tackle the technical aspect of the sport including offensive drills and defensive strategies.

The said camp is open to all males and females who aged at least seven years old.

Registration fee is pegged at P1,100 per month and that will entitle the participant to a Sunsport basketball, bag, upper uniform and white T-shirt. The registration date is on April 4, which will start at 8:00 in the morning. The training schedule is slated on April 4-29 for the first level and May 2-27 for the second level. It will be two hours per day every weekday at 8:00 to 10:00 in the morning.

Meanwhile, due to the huge turn-out of female participants last year, Sunsport Basketball Training Camp 2011 will try to focus not only on male players but this time to the female basketball hopefuls as the training starts this summer at the Sacred Heart Center Sports Club.

SBTC head Andrew Choachuy said that he was overwhelmed by the turn-out of female participants last year, which he did not expect.

“I will try to focus more on the female participants this season because with the huge participation last summer, I guess it’s time to let these girls be given the proper training,” Choachuy said.

He added that he has plans of grouping these girls and make them challenge other teams through a friendly match during the training.

Choachuy also aims at giving proper training and develop these girls, who have great potentials of playing not only locally but as well as to the national and international levels.

“All I can offer as of the moment is the proper for the girls for them to be developed. I hope that one of these girls will surely make waves in the future.

There are lots of competitions in Manila and in the United States, that’s why we will be training them through the camp,” he said.
