CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano batted sports enthusiasts are in for once-in-a-lifetime treat as Major League Baseball legend Ken Griffey, Jr. is in town to conduct a two-day clinic beginning today at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City this afternoon.

Along with the 41-year-old Griffey will be his brother Craig, a former player with the Seattle Mariners organization and Joe Logan, a former player with the Montreal Expos organization.

Griffey is a 13-time All-Star, 10 straight Golden Glove awardee, a former American League MVP and is among the elite group of players with the most homeruns that include Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth.

The decorated baseball player retired after 21 seasons combined with the Seattle Mariners, Cincinatti Reds and Chicago White Sox.

Clinics for coaches will focus on teaching the basics of teamwork and sportsmanship, identifying and developing talent, and leading practices and clinics, while clinics for players will focus on developing fundamental baseball skills like hitting, infield, pitching, and outfield.

Fastball and the Cebu City Sports Commission have been tapped by US Embassy officials to help organize and be the host of the Cebu leg.

There will be three clinics starting with the 6-9 years old age group on March 3 at 4 to 6pm. The following day will be for the 10-16 age group at 8:30 to 11:30am and the 16-above age-group from 1:30 to 4pm.

All baseball, softball and sports aficionados are invited to watch and see new techniques on how to play the game of baseball. For those who are interested to join the clinic, one may contact Jesse Bernad of Fastball Sportsventure at 0917 3222284 or email at jessebernad@yahoo.com. – (FREEMAN)
