Cebu City Marathon organizers aim for bigger, better race

CEBU, Philippines - Dreaming of becoming one of Asia’s best marathons needs to start somewhere that organizers of the Cebu City Marathon promises a bigger and better staging of the 2011 edition set January 11, 2011 at the Asiatown IT Park.

After establishing itself as the “best” marathon organized in the country, so far, according to reviews and blogs by some well-known running enthusiasts and even organizers, the Cebu Executive Runners Club wants to keep such reputation and respect.

With that, CERC led by Jess Taborada decided to announce the event early through a press conference at the Banana Leaf at the Ayala Center-Terraces so they can have more time to prepare for the second edition as well as for the runners to be able to plot their training and schedule of competition well.

With more running events held here, CERC is hoping that the early announcement of Cebu’s premiere running event will not have any other conflicting running events as what has been experienced by some organizers.

Aside from that, CERC hopes to break the 4,000 total number of participants it had during its inaugural staging last January by attracting not only more local entries, but more out-of-towners and foreign entries.

“We really hope to attract more participants not only here but from out-of-town and foreign runners,”said Taborada.

With that in mind, CERC will now have an on-line registration and will be accepting an online payment through Mastercard and Visa card services. The registration period though will start on September yet, six months before the race proper. (FREEMAN NEWS)
