Castrol nips JV Bakeshop

Castrol ’96 staged a cripping rally in the middle quarters of tear JV Bakeshop ’99 into crumbs, 57-50, in the resumption of the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 10th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup on Tuesday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Class ’96 trailed by a hairline after the first period, 9-10, but charged back in the next two periods with a blistering 32-17 rally to suddenly blew the game wide open in its favor, 41-27.

Troy Symington Tan and Mark Nino Siso staged a last ditch rally for Class ’99 in the windup but Castrol’s Arniel Frank Pelaez and Gerald Chua were quick enough to rebuff the comeback hopes of the JV Bakeshop-backed squad.

Pelaez was the lone double-digit scorer with 16 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists as Class ’96 improved its win-loss record to 5-1. Class ’99 fell to 2-6.

T. Tan paced Class ’99 with 17 points on top of eight rebounds, five assists and two steals followed by See with 11 markers, six rebounds and three steals.

In the other game, VAG Trading ’94 notched its second straight win but not without passing through a scare before repulsing Asian Home Appliance ’89/93, 45-43, in a low-scoring duel that went close from start to finish.

Stanley Gaw had 11 points, eight rebounds, and two assistsas Class ’94 bettered its win-loss card to 2-3.

Ryan Alexis Mendez topped Class ’89/93 with 17 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Richard Lim had 12 points and nine rebounds, while Edison Ong added 10 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks but their efforts were to no avail as they dropped to 2-4.
