Marvin Eguia swept his last three games to bag the Class A title of the Oriental Port and Allied Services Corporation (OPASCOR) Chess Tournament at the OPASCOR building.

Eguia of the Accounting Department nailed 4.0 points in the five-round Swsis system competition to take home the P3,000 champion’s purse.

OPASCOR’s audit consultant Florimae Velasco and Accounting’s Vench Ybañez both finished with 3.5 points but Velasco took the first runner-up honors courtesy of a higher tie-break output.

The other Class A entries include OPASCOR president and general manager Atty. Tom Riveral, Tony Riveral, Ricky Lucero, Albert Mula, Gerry Dignos, Mark Alasagas and Dwight Velasco.

In class B, Fel Alasagas completed a five-game sweep to win P2,000.

Gerard Dignos, Jr. settled for second place followed by Arvin Riveral.

Before the games, chess enthusiasts employed with OPASCOR attended the seminar conducted by NM Ben Macapaz, who also served as the tournament arbiter. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
