Tuburan offers more tourist spots

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Tuburan Mayor Democrito “Aljun” Diamante said that the town still has other tourism attractions and destinations after he ordered the closure of Molobolo Spring last week due to safety reasons.

With the closure, Diamante said the town has other tourist attractions such as the Tuburan 360 View, Tuburan Coffee Farm, Blue Hole, Marmol Cliff, Atabay Peak, the almost 300 years Dao Tree, more caves and other springs.

The Tuburan 360 View located in Barangay Kabangkalan is the newest addition to the town’s tourist destinations in western Cebu.

The mayor is, however, optimistic that despite the closure, this will be open before the year ends and hopes that the municipal government will be on good terms with the barangay officials of Molobolo and some issues will be legally settled.

“Hopefully until ma fully rehabilitate ang among spring, ma open na siya balik before Christmas this year,” the mayor said.

He said that although the municipal government owned the spring, there is, however, an ongoing dispute between the LGU of Tuburan and the landowner, where the spring is located.

Diamante said there is now an ongoing litigation of the right of way over the property and problems on the parking area since it is a private property.

He said that the Molobolo Spring, with an estimated 300 to 800 visitors per day during weekdays and more than 1,000 visitors per day during weekends, produced around one million liters of water per day.

The mayor said that the place is a nice place to visit especially as just five meters away, one can go to the sea.

“Dili sad kaayo cooperative ang mga opisyal sa barangay, dili pro-active ang mga mga barangay official kay naay gap kay ang landowner relative man sa ubang barangay officials,” Diamante added.

The mayor however hopes to be on good terms with the barangay officials of Molobolo so that the LGU and the said barangay can work hand in hand in ensuring the safety of all the visitors coming to the spring. — (FREEMAN)
