PWDs spend a day with their family

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Fostering community and friendship among persons with disabilities (PWDs) was the main purpose of the government in yesterday’s gathering at D' Family Park in Barangay Talamban for a day of fun that they spent together with their families.

It is meant to be the culminating celebration as part of "National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.”

Jojo Pimentel, head of the PWD office in the government, said that they intend that all PWDs in the 80 barangays of the city will be able to play for free at D' Family Park, which is owned by the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD).

“Ato ning gihangyo pinaagi sa atong pinalanggang konsehal sa una sa siyudad, atong MCWD chairman, Atty. Joey Daluz, nga makagamit ta sa Family Park absolutely free hangtod sa swimming pool, hangtod sa parkingan. Naaprobahan sa board nila sa MCWD, mao na nia ta diri,” said Pimentel.

The event was intended to all PWDs from every barangay and their families to enjoy.

However, not all barangays participated because only 40 out of 80 barangays brought their PWDs to the park.

According to Pimentel, the barangay officials will be the one to host a celebration for those barangays who did not attend the celebration. — Shaina Fame Marie P. Mabatid, UV Intern,GMR (FREEMAN)
