MCWD vows stable water supply in upland villages

CEBU, Philippines — Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) chairman Jose Daluz III said that a better water supply in some of the city’s mountain barangays is underway.

This, as the MCWD awarded at least a P218 million worth contract to two contractors for the construction of a modular water tank and for the pipe laying for the Lusaran Bulk Water Supply Project.

The contract signing was done yesterday morning at the board room of the MCWD building.

“If you remember a few months ago, nagpirma tag joint venture sa JE Hydro para sa Lusaran nato nga impounding area that will deliver 20 MLD (millions of liter per day) water. Now, this is the second component. Kay kanang tubig sa Lusaran, once mo-operate na, dad-on na gikan sa Lusaran ngadto sa Busay sa Lobregat Property which is owned by MCWD,” said Daluz.

“Kaning among gi-signan karon is the second component for the entire project which is the reservoir and the piping to the areas na nga Apas, Lahug, Kasambagan maybe, a little of Kamputhaw,” he said.

Daluz said for the second component, two reservoirs, which could store 3,000 cubic meters of water each, and piping from Lobregat in Busay to Lahug will be executed by two contractors.

The contractor, CG Integra Corp/M.E. Sicat Construction Inc. (JV), will be the one to execute the proposed design and construction of 2 units 3,000 cu.m. modular water tank, Barangay Busay.

The MCWD has accepted the bid for P103,500,000 by the contractor for the execution and completion of such works.

Meanwhile, the contractor, JFAP Construction/Optimus Engineering and Construction Joint Venture, will be the one to execute the proposed DI Transmission Line along Lobregat Property in Barangay Busay to JY Square in Barangay Lahug.

The MCWD has accepted the bid for P115,394,405.38 by the contractor for the execution and completion of such works.

Daluz said the target to finish this project is October next year, but the contractors’ commitment is to deliver the water earlier, which is between April and May. — KQD (FREEMAN)
