COVID-19 deaths, active cases in Central Visayas remain high

CEBU, Philippines — Central Visayas still has the second highest number of deaths in COVID-19 in the country and among the top five in the most number of active cases based on the latest situationer from the Department of Health.

In DOH’s COVID-19 tracker, Central Visayas now has a total of 1,826 deaths since the start of the pandemic, behind the National Capital Region which now has 5,514.

For the combined provinces and cities, Cebu City’s ranking had gone slightly lower at number 3 with 809 deaths and trailed by Cebu Province with 585 deaths.

Quezon City has the most number of deaths right now at 1,029 and trailed by the City of Manila with 852 while Rizal Province is at fifth spot with 552 deaths.

In DOH-VII’s April 9 case bulletin, Cebu City’s total deaths is now at 822 while Cebu Province’s deaths remain the same while Mandaue City has 203, Lapu-Lapu City with 148, Negros Oriental with 59, Bohol with 24 and Siquijor now with two deaths tallied.

As for the active cases, Central Visayas is at the fifth spot with 5,189 in DOH’s latest COVID-19 situationer while NCR is on top with 88,357 followed by Calabarzon with 30,066, Central Luzon with 16,217 and Cagayan Valley with 8,049.

In DOH-VII’s own data, however, Central Visayas’ active cases are now down to 4,477 with the bulk coming from Cebu City with 1,064.

In Cebu City’s Emergency Operations Center, its active cases left are now only 746 even as they have 96 new cases. Some of its newly-covered patients are still for validation with DOH-VII.

Active cases in Cebu right now are from 66 different barangays in the city.

In EOC’s own data as well, the city now has logged 826 deaths, including the nine deaths for this month so far. — GMR (FREEMAN)
