CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu Provincial Government will soon be using smart meter to read the water meter from the water distribution system managed by the Capitol.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said the Capitol will be importing electronic water system for a more efficient and accurate reading of water meter and billing. This system will be pioneered at the Carmen water system.

"Ako na na gitun-an ang pinaka laborious and sometime becomes room for kanang corruption kana gyud reading of the water meter usahay dili mabasa, usahay dili mao," Garcia said.

The said electronic water system is targeted to be done within the first quarter of the year.

The Capitol is heading towards managing the water system in the province aiming to provide water at each household and address lack of water supply.

The Economic Enterprise Council has passed a resolution creating the Cebu Provincial Inter-LGU Waterwork System which will be managed by the Capitol.

The resolution was already confirmed by the Provincial Board.

Garcia said the province is now preparing operational manual and framework and other operational details which will be presented to the PB so that an ordinance will be passed.

For the tariffs, the province will be conducting a public hearing so that people will be informed. Once it will be done, the tariff rate will be presented again to the august body for approval.

Aside from Carmen, other towns having a potential water development include Argao, Moalboal, Badian, Pinamungajan and Pilar.

Garcia said the Provincial Government already appropriated fund last year for the development of water system in some areas of the province and another appropriation is set aside for 2021 for the same purpose.

"Our target really is dili man tingale nato makompleto tanan apan masulbad nato to a greater degree ang problema sa mga tawo sa tubig," Garcia said. — GMR (FREEMAN)
