CEBU, Philippines — After five years of construction, the P300 million worth of new public market in Carcar City has opened Friday.

City Information Officer Candice Acuña said the new market has no entrance fee contrary to rumors.

Acuña also posted in her Facebook account that Carcar City government also provided a free shuttle ride from San Fernando and Sibonga to Carcar City Public Market and vice versa.

The pick-up point is at the respective municipal hall of San Fernando and Sibonga.

Shuttle buses depart Carcar Public Market at 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and depart San Fernando and Sibonga at 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Two shuttle buses are provided each for San Fernando and Sibonga.

The free ride already started last Friday.

The grand opening of the new market is slated tomorrow, January 11, 2021, with Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia as guest of honor.

Acuña said the two-storey new market, which is located at the back of their new City Hall has two buildings for its wet and dry sections.

Both buildings have an area of 4,729 square meters each.

So far, there are still available stalls and the next bidding will be on January 22, 2021 at 2 p.m.

She said that the market’s parking area (inside) can accommodate 100 four-wheel vehicles and 39 tricycles while another 268 more slots for parking of vehicles outside or in front of the market.

The old market is located at the town’s rotunda in Barangay Poblacion 2 while the new one is located at Barangay Poblacion 3.

Among the special features of this new market include individual meter per stall, tiled flooring, the area is well ventilated and the counters at the wet market is made of granite slab, it has a food court, has industrial fans, among others.

Acuña added that this new market is part of the four infrastructure projects under the “City Center” project which houses the new City Hall, the ongoing new terminal and sports center with an Olympic size swimming pool and gymnasium.

The terminal and the sports center are expected to be completed within the year, Acuña further said. — GMR (FREEMAN)
