DSWD-7 discourages used clothing for typhoon victims

CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development 7 has discouraged donors from donating used clothing for typhoons victims.

“To safeguard the health and maintain the dignity and well-being of families affected by the disaster, DSWD discourages the donation of used clothes, instead, only new sets of clothes and adult undergarments will be accepted as donations,” the DSWD-7 said in a statement.

The statement was made by DSWD-7 as it has started accepting donations for families and victims that were badly affected by recent typhoons that hit several areas in Luzon.

DSWD-7 said that accepted items for in-kind donations are foods (non-perishable goods, canned goods), mats, toiletries, blankets, tents, eco-bags, kitchen and cooking utensils, toys, and other essential items that victims need.

The agency will be accepting cash and in-kind donations at its regional office in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City.

For the cash donations, donors may hand the money to their cashiers wherein they will issue an official receipt reflecting the amount given to the agency for the typhoon victims.

It added that donors may indicate the name of the place or region in Luzon to which they wish to send their donations such as in Bicol, Region 2, Region IV-A, or other parts of Luzon.

It can be recalled that for this month super typhoon “Rolly” and typhoon “Ulysses” entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility and made landfall in areas of Luzon which triggered extreme flooding and landslides, destroyed properties and livelihood, and displaced a lot of families.

DSWD reminds everyone to be careful and report fake accounts that use the name of the agency to take advantage of collecting donations for their personal gains.

Meanwhile, the DSWD central office as well as other field offices continues to provide augmentation support to local government units that were severely hit by the calamity. — GMR (FREEMAN)
