Media Welfare Act pushed in Lower House

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) and the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFMS) are pushing for the passage of the Media Welfare Act.

PCOO Secretary and PTFMS Chairman Martin Andanar said this needs the support of the media and this will be tackled during the Regional Media Summit that will soon happen.

Andanar, speaking before some members of Cebu Media the other night dubbed as "Media Engagement," said that it is about time to discuss the problems among media people and what solutions to take.

Andanar said that House Bill No. 2476, or the Media Workers' Welfare Bill, seeks to provide media workers additional benefits and security of tenure.

Such proposed measure is now pending at the House of Representatives sponsored by ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Rowena Nina Taduran.

Andanar said the proposed bill will be tackled during the summit so that inputs will be included in the bill.

"Solving the one big problem that most of the media people are facing is economic vulnerability. I hope mo-support gyud ang taga-media ani nga bill kay para atoa gyud ni," said Andanar.

Along with the media summit, the Duterte Legacy Summit, wherein accomplishments and programs of the Duterte administration for the last three years, will be presented.  GAN (FREEMAN)
