4 motorcycle ‘thieves’ nabbed

Rowena D. Capistrano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Four suspected motorcycle thieves, including a minor, were arrested by the police Thursday evening in Sitio Bunami, Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.

Police identified the suspects as Jason Alonso, 26; Artemio Inting, 39; Renato Alegria, 41; and a minor whose name is withheld by The Freeman.

Chief Insp. Keith Allen Andaya, Punta Princesa Police Station chief, said the arrest of the suspects stemmed from a follow up operation on a complaint filed by Michael Cañeda, 44, resident of Barangay Labangon. Cañeda said he lost his motorcycle on January 10 while it was parked along Natalio Bacalso Avenue.

An investigation led the police to the suspects resulting in their arrest and the recovery of the parts of the stolen motorcycle. Andaya said it is the suspects’ modus to cannibalize the motorcycle and sell each the parts.

The police are calling all victims of motorcycle theft to coordinate with them and possibly identify the suspects who are now detained at the police station.

Andaya said criminal complaints are now being prepared for filing against them before the prosecutor’s office. — FPL (FREEMAN)
