3 motives eyed in the killings of 2 retired cops

Camille L. Pateres - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Police are eyeing three possible angles in the killings of two retired police officers in Barangay Bulacao, Talisay City last Sunday.

Retired policemen Edgar Causon and Ferdinand Dindo Navales came from a coffee shop in a mall when they were attacked by two unidentified gunmen.

Talisay City Police Station chief Supt. Marlu Conag said the first possible motive is the alleged involvement of Causon in the illegal drugs.

“Pwedeng nadamay lang din si Navales. May info na si Causon talaga yung madalas dyan,” Conag said.

Conag said that the mastermind may have been tracking Causon’s activities which include his frequent visit to the coffee shop. Second angle was that Navales may have been the target because of a land dispute.

“Pero i-validate pa natin yan,” he said.

Conag said they are not also discounting the possibility that a drug syndicate was behind the killings because both Navales and Causon were former members of the Provincial Intelligence Branch.

Conag, however, said that they are still conducting investigation.

“Ongoing pa ang investigation ng ating mga imbestigador. Naghahanap pa din ng mga CCTV footage dun sa lugar,” he added.

Meanwhile, Cebu Provincial Police Office director Senior Supt. Manuel Javier Abrugena has yet to decide whether a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) is necessary to look into the case.

Abrugena said he is leaving the investigation to Talisay City Police Station for the meantime. — FPL (FREEMAN)
