The Freeman Opinion editor dies at 33
CEBU, Philippines - Reginald Michael Quirong, The FREEMAN's Opinion section editor, passed away on Wednesday morning, his family said.
Quirong's parents Rolando and Carmelita told The FREEMAN that he died in his sleep. He was 33.
Quirong, who was also teaching Literature at the University of the Philippines-Cebu, joined The Freeman in October this year.
Quirong's family said his wake will begin this Sunday inside the St. Philip Chapel of St. Peter Chapels on Imus Road in Cebu City. Interment has been set for Thursday, December 8.
UP-Cebu officials said there will also be a Mass and necrological service at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday. The exact venue of the rites — whether in Audio Visual Room 1 or the Performing Arts Hall - is still being finalized though.
Quirong spent his last 10 years teaching. Before UP-Cebu, he had taught college students at the Cebu Doctors' University and the University of San Carlos, where he finished his degree in English with Applied Linguistics.
As an assistant instructor, he designed and taught courses in English grammar, creative non-fiction writing, public speaking, and literature.
He also assisted in the planning of university-organized activities and participated in seminars and workshops regarding pedagogy, linguistics, and literature. (FREEMAN)
