8 rescued in Compostela’s curfew implementation

CEBU, Philippines - Eight minors were rescued by police and personnel of the Local Social Welfare and Development Office (LSWDO) of the municipality of Compostela after they were found outside of their homes after curfew hours Thursday evening. 

Police Officer 2 Daryl Rondina of Compostela Police Station said the implementation of the curfew is based on the ordinance passed by the municipal council imposing curfew hours on minors or those below 18-years-old.

 Rondina said it was on Monday that they first implemented the curfew.

The rescued minors were caught playing video games in different internet cafés in four barangays.

 Their operation, Rondina said, started around 10 p.m. and ended at 5 a.m.

 The rescued minors were placed under the custody of LSWDO of Compostela before they were turned over to their respective parents.

 Penalty imposed for violators for the first offense is four hours community service, six hours community service for the second offense and eight hours community service for the third.

 If the violator refuses to render community service, Rondina said he or she should pay the fine of P100 for first offense; P300 for second offense, and P500 for third offense.

 If the violator would not be able pay, their parents or guardian would be obliged to render community service.

 Four or succeeding offenses is equivalent to a fine of P500 and the minor will be referred to the Department of Social Welfare and Development for intervention.

 Meanwhile, a man landed in the hospital after he was shot by his neighbor whom he challenged to a fight.

Police Officer 2 Jerome Millor of Tabuelan Police Station said Nob Arnado, 31, was allegedly under the influence of liquor when he went to the house of Wildion Lopez, 36, and challenged him to a fight.

"Naa man kay armas gawas diha kay magpatay ta," Arnado reportedly told Lopez.

 Lopez allegedly lost his patience and got his .357 caliber and shot the victim.

 The suspect voluntarily surrendered before Barangay Captain Marcus Arellano while the victim was brought to the hospital.  Lopez is now detained at the Tabuelan Police Station.

 In Argao town, a man died after he was shot by two unidentified assailants on Friday afternoon along the national highway of Sitio Cancainap, Barangay Tulic.

 Investigation revealed that the victim, Sabino Egos, was driving his tricycle when two unidentified men wearing bonnets approached and shot the victim hitting his face and chest.

 Egos was rushed to the hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

Police Officer 3 Benjamin Geyroga of Argao Police Station said the victim has no record that he is involved in drugs or illegal activities.

He said they are following personal grudge as the motive in the killing. (FREEMAN)
