CEBU, Philippines - At least four houses were damaged by two minor landslides in Cebu City yesterday, according to Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

CCDRRMC head and City Councilor David Tumulak said the continuous rain the past few days triggered both landslides in Barangay Kalunasan and Barangay Bulacao.

One of the landslides occurred in sitio Lahera, Barangay Kalunasan at 8 am yesterday and damaged at least three houses owned by Edelaida Rosal, Nenita Lanar, and Genelou Cubrado.  Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were recorded, said Tumulak.

“Nakabalik ra ang mga pamilya sa ilang panimalay paghuman nato og clearing didto,” he said.

Tumulak said he has informed the Department of Social Welfare and Services to assess the houses so that the city government can provide assistance to the family such as housing materials.

The continuous rain also loosened the soil and caused the perimeter fence of a bakeshop to collapse in Riverside, Barangay Bulacao at 9:30 a.m. yesterday.

Fountainhead Bakeshop’s fence then hit the kitchen area of a nearby house owned by Roseldo Rellanos.

“Matud sa Barangay Bulacao, ila daw ipatawag ang tag-iya sa bakeshop ug ang tag-iya sa balay para masulbad ni,” Tumulak said.

Tumulak said the house should be relocated because the fence poses danger to the residents’ lives.

“Gi-recommend gyod nako nila nga i-vacate gyod usa ang balay kay dilikado pa gyod kay nagsige pa raba og uwan,” he said, adding that there are also houses nearby which would be affected.

According to Tumulak, the weather in the city will still be the same for another one week because of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone.   (FREEMAN)
