Probe set for cop who shot armed person in Moalboal

CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch will be investigating the administrative liability of PO1 Sofialin Pableo who shot dead an armed person early morning Sunday in Sitio Calumpang, Barangay Poblacion West, Moalboal.

Police C/Insp. Timmar Alam, deputy chief of the PIDMB, said that they are still waiting for the investigation report from the Moalboal Police Station.

“We will wait for the investigation report of the police station and if we are not satisfied of their explanation, then we will come in to check if PO1 Pableo has ground for administrative case or none,” Alam said.

No family member of the victim, Delgado Sab-a, 31, of Barangay Poblacion East, appeared at the police station to file charges against Pableo.

Pableo is expected to be released from jail this afternoon as the reglementary period ends.

Inspector Edgar Labe, Moalboal police chief, said Pableo might escape the criminal charges but it is up to the PIDMB to investigate his administrative liability.

“Naana ang IR (investigation report) gihimo na sa imbestigador pero ako na lang i-review para i-submit karon,” Labe told The FREEMAN.

Pableo, assigned to the Dumanjug Police Station, had just come from work when he received information from a neighbor about a suspicious person sneaking into the house of his other neighbor.

He responded and approached Sab-a who allegedly attempted to pull out something from his waist, which prompted Pableo to shoot him. Sab-a was hit in the abdomen.

“Nagduda na man daan ang pulis nga dunay pusil maong iyang giunhan na lang,” Labe said.

Sab-a was rushed to the Badian District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

“Wala makapabuto ang suspek pero naunhan kay armado mang daan,” Labe said.

Moalboal police recovered a .38 revolver with two bullets from Sab-a’s possession.

Pableo surrendered to the responding police and turned over his 9mm service pistol.  (FREEMAN)
