Grenade found near old Bogo CH

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A hand grenade was found yesterday morning near the old city hall building of Bogo where the distribution of the official ballots for today’s elections was done.

A boy reportedly found the explosive outside an unfinished classroom in Barangay Cogon. The grenade did not have a safety pin anymore when it was recovered.

The boy, whose name was not revealed by the police, turned over the grenade to the members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team.

PO3 Jim Susvilla said the grenade was obviously thrown by unidentified person because the pin was already removed.

“Wala to kabuto pero ug nabuhian pa to sa bata possible mubuto pa gyud to (It did not explode but had the boy dropped it, it could have exploded),” Susvilla said in a phone interview.

Comelec personnel and the teachers who are members of the Board of Election Inspectors were at the old city hall building during the time.

Susvilla said they are still conducting investigation to identify the person responsible in throwing the grenade. Two other grenades were also found in Bogo City earlier.

Meanwhile, the house of a barangay councilman in Cayang, Bogo was fired upon by unidentified men on board two separate motorcycles last Saturday evening.

Councilman Samuel Ancao Cabalican, 50, said he was awakened by two gunshots directed at his roof.

Cabalican said he saw two motorcycles fleeing from his place. One motorcycle was boarded by three unidentified men while the other only had one rider.

Police are still investigating the case to determine the motive. (FREEMAN)
