Capitol opens road inside compound

Marigold Lebumfacil - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - The access road at the back of the Cebu Provincial Capitol near the Legislative building was opened to the public yesterday and will still be opened until midnight today.

This was made possible after Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia approved Mayor Michael Rama’s request to have it opened for two days.

This is done to give way to private vehicles heading to M. Velez Street to ease the flow of vehicles at Don Gil Garcia Street, where heavy traffic is expected due to the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe today at Brgy. Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Rama is grateful to Garcia for approving his request. He added that being in good terms with Garcia was one of the reasons his request was not denied.

According to Rama, progress results when there is cooperation among the respective local government units.

It can be recalled that the said access road was used last year when the roads in M. Velez St. were reconstructed. Rama said that the road widening made at M. Velez was of great help since it is where most of the vehicles from the southern areas will pass.

Members of the City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) will be fielded in the different areas to put order in the traffic flow.

A number of CITOM members were already fielded since the other day and until now. CITOM advised motorists, drivers and other road users to follow traffic signs installed on the re-routing areas.

For the re-routing today, all passenger jeepneys going to Guadalupe Church passing V. Rama Avenue should turn right to Barangay Road, then turn right to A. Abellana St. to their usual point of destination.

The Barangay Road will be utilized as an exit route from V. Rama Avenue up to A. Abellana St. Both Bacayo St. and Singson Road will be used as the entrance route from A. Abellana St. going to V. Rama Avenue. Motor vehicles cannot park along V. Rama Ave. up to Guadalupe Church Rotunda.

Rama reminded everyone to be patient today since it’s just normal that most of the people will be trooping to the Shrine of the Patroness of Cebu, the Our Lady of Guadalupe, to venerate and to pay tribute. – (FREEMAN)
