Woman admits she is not a doctor

CEBU, Philippines - Gloria Rabor, who was arrested after clients complained of infections for buttocks enhancements she performed, admitted that she is not a doctor.

She stopped studying after her second year taking up Bachelor of Science major in Biology. She added that she worked for ten years as assistant of a licensed OB-Gyne and has “sub-specialty in derma enhancement.”

For almost two years, when her boss left for the United States, she continued her work on derma enhancement.

Rabor told the media she knew the victims from long time ago in Sagbayan, Bohol. She claimed it was the victims who approached her for the buttocks enhancement.

“They approached me first through phone calls and told me that they wanted butt enhancement in Bohol and they will accommodate me there,” she said in Bisaya.

Rabor said the cause of the infection was because the place was unsanitary. Moreover, Rabor said when she knew that complainants were having infection, she told them to go to Cebu so she can “drain” the infection but they refused and blamed her instead.

She added that the two has outstanding balance to her. She also disclosed that she had ten customers for nose lift.

Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) Central Visayas Director Dan Malayang said Rabor is not listed in their License Exams and Registration Information System (LERIS) which contains all registered doctors, engineers and nurses, among others.

“Wala siya sa regional records but ato pa i-check sa national,” he said. (Let’s check with the national office, but she is not in the regional list.)

He said they still need to wait for four to five days for the official confirmation from their central office in Manila. He said there are roughly 60 pending cases at their office for alleged malpractices from various fields of work.

Dr. Cora Lou Kintanar, former spokesperson of the Department of Health in Region 7, said the uses of collagen in surgical operations is banned in the country because of its side effects.

Kintanar said improper use of collagen can definitely destroy tissues and can even lead to cancer. Surgeons are now using Hyaluronic acid as a substitute to collagen which only has minor side effects.

She said people should not sacrifice their health for cheaper but unreliable operation by unlicensed medical practitioners, stressing that effects of such operations are permanent.

A normal buttocks implant, according to her, could cost around P100,000 while repair of damage tissue from infections can reach to P300,000.

A case was filed yesterday against Rabor after the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office found probable cause. Prosecutor Mario Ley Gidayawan recommended the filing of three cases in court after Gloria Rabor waived her right to file counter-affidavit.

The cases are two counts of estafa and violation of Section 28 of Republic Act 2382 known as the Medical Act of 1959 and violation of Section 12 of Republic Act 9165 known as Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act for possession of drugs paraphernalia.

During the inquest proceedings yesterday, Rabor, 56, a resident of Barangay Kinasang-an, Cebu City chose to elevate the cases immediately before the court. — (FREEMAN)
