Indian national commits suicide

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - A 23-year-old Indian national who was believed to be mentally-challenged, was found hanging lifeless inside the room of his rented apartment in Sitio Luan-Luan, Barangay Poblacion I, Carcar City around 4:00 last Wednesday.

Ankush Kumar Batish was found by his cousin, Hari Parkash, hanging from the ceiling with a nylon rope looped around his neck, when the latter checked his cousin’s room.

Friends rushed Batish to the Binoya Hospital in Sitio Dapdap, Barangay Poblacion III, before he was referred to the Carcar Provincial Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Initial investigation revealed that Parkash was worried when he did not see Batish since morning that day. It was around late in the afternoon when he decided to forcibly open the locked door of the room.

Parkash was surprised when he saw Batish hanging with the rope tied to the ceiling.

Due to fear, Parkash immediately called his friend Sandeep Kumar who is also living with them. They both helped untie Batish.

According to Rajinder Kumar Batish, older brother of the victim, it was the third time that Ankush committed suicide.

SPO3 Jorame Tanudtanud, Carcar City police investigator, disclosed that four years ago while he was still in India, Ankush attempted to hang himself using a t-shirt but he was seen by his parents.

This prompted the family to send Ankush to the Philippines and let him stay with his brother, who is a money lender.

This did not prevent Ankush from attempting to end his life. Last February 29, he gobbled Naphthalene balls in his room but he was again found by his brother.

This time, Ankush was alone in the apartment when he committed suicide. (FREEMAN)
