For topping CPA exams: Capitol scholar to get P30T cash incentive

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Government will extend cash incentive to its scholar who placed 9th in the recent Certified Public Accountants (CPA) licensure examinations. The cash incentives have been given to provincial scholars as reward for their exemplary courage and determination to pursue their studies despite poverty.

“Certainly, kining atong ninth placer nga taga Carcar mahilakip gyud ni siya, matagaan gyud ni siya usab og atong cash incentives, (our ninth placer from Carcar will be given cash incentives)” said Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Edmond Emperio made it to the top 10 with a rating of 91.71 percent and is one among the four Cebu students who made it to the top. Emperio is a graduate of the University of San Jose-Recoletos.

Emperio, a scholar of Garcia’s Cebu Tertiary Educational Assistance Program (CTEAP), already received P25,000 incentive from the province for graduating magna cum laude in October 2011.

The CTEAP was implemented in 2005 with the basic goal of providing financial assistance to poor but deserving high school graduates who are very eager to proceed to college.

Four students are chosen from each component city and municipality in Cebu province to be a CTEAP scholar. Each student can avail of free tuition and miscellaneous expenses on top of the P 2, 000 monthly stipend.

Under the program, each CTEAP scholar who finish their course magna cum laude will receive P25,000 cash incentive, P15,000 for cum laude while the rest are given P 5, 000.

Those who top the licensure examination also get P30,000 each.

“Beyond that, I wish to say that this is really one of the most fulfilling parts of this job that I have undertaken,” Garcia said.

Garcia said the success of Emperio is a validation of how the scholarship program has indeed made a difference in his life and in the lives of other scholars.

Aside from CTEAP, the Province of Cebu is also extending scholarship to all valedictorians and salutatorians.—Gregg M. Rubio/FPL (THE FREEMAN)
