Charter Day awardees trimmed from 35 to 10

CEBU, Philippines - The number of awardees for the Outstanding Employees in this year’s 75th Charter Day Celebration is down to less than 10, way fewer than last year when the city awarded 35 exemplary employees.

Earlier, Human Resource and Development Officer Veronica Morelos who is also a member of the Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE Committee) mentioned that they have to reduce the number of awardees due to budgetary constraint.

The guidelines for the search for Outstanding Employees is out and sets the criteria for Cebu City’s 75th Charter Day awardees where the City shall award one department head, one assistant department, one division chief, one section head and one rank and file employee.

There will also be one awardee for the outstanding department category which will be based on the department’s ‘operational excellence’.

The nominees for each category shall be evaluated based on their performance, achievements, leadership, personality and work attitude and cooperation.

The nominees for the outstanding department will be based on the department’s timely completion of projects and delivery of service and their planned series of steps leading to the city’s achievement of its mission and goals.

Eligible awardees are those employed by the city for at least a year at the time of the award and those who are consistently rated “Very Satisfactory” for the last two rating periods. He or she must have also not been found guilty of any administrative or criminal offense.

All department heads are automatically nominated provided that he or she has been in the position for at least one year.

The awardee for outstanding department head will be receiving P50,000 plus a plaque while the outstanding assistant department head shall receive P40,000 plus a plaque, outstanding division chief and outstanding section head shall receive P30,000 each plus a plaque and outstanding rank and file employee shall receive P20,000 plus a plaque.

The City will also give loyalty awards to those who have been in service for 10 years as of February 24, 2012. They shall receive a certificate of appreciation.

Mayor Michael Rama will also award the employees of his choice.

During the 74th Charter Day last year, the City Government awarded 35 employees - one outstanding department head, one outstanding assistant department head, one outstanding department, two outstanding division chiefs, five outstanding section chiefs, 20 outstanding rank and file employees and five mayor’s special awardees.

Earlier, Morelos also said that they might not be able to hold the awarding ceremony in a five-star hotel but they might hold it at the Social Hall of the Legislative Building. — (FREEMAN)
