Woman killed, another hurt in 2 stabbings

CEBU, Philippines - A saleswoman was stabbed to death at Sitio Viking, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City on Valentines day.

Rocel Villanueva, 30, a production specialist for an appliances brand, succumbed to multiple stab wounds on various parts of his body after she reportedly accused Rustom Bedad, 18, as a thief.

The victim, who is a resident of F. Villa Street, Barangay T. Padilla, was chased and stabbed to death by Bedad, a resident of Sitio Santo Niño, Barangay Duljo-Fatima, at around 10:30 pm.

PO2 Lydio Libres Jr. was on his motorcycle heading for work at the Mambaling Police Station when he spotted Bedad armed with an ice pick in one hand while chasing the victim

Libres immediately disembarked from his motorcycle and pacified the suspect who has stabbed the victim multiple times before he was arrested.

Villanueva’s bloodied body was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center by responding officers but the attending physician declared her already dead.

A six-inch ice pick was recovered from the suspect’s possession.

PO1 Esmer Escultor, homicide investigator, said that Bedad started attacking the victim using the ice pick after someone shouted and called Bedad a thief but it was not clear if the victim was the one who shouted.

Bedad is currently detained at the new Fuente Police Station stockade while the police prepare charges for murder against him.

Meanwhile,a personal grudge was believed to be the reason why a 22-year-old woman was stabbed by her own neighbor using a screw driver at about 9:20 last Tuesday evening in Barangay South Poblacion, San Fernando.

Florida Bedolido, 22, was taken to the Carcar City District Hospital due to a stab wound in her left ear while the suspect, Jenny Siarza, 20, voluntarily surrendered to the responding policemen after she committed the crime.

PO1 Edgar Enclonar said Bedolido was at the rest house of her aunt Flordeliza Gabisan when Siarza arrived already looking angry.

Siarza who was allegedly armed with a screw driver confronted Bedolido regarding their previous conflict which led to a heated argument.

Enclonar said that Siarza reportedly lost control of her temper and stabbed Bedolido once causing her injury.

Siarza went home but surrendered when the police arrived. It was Gabisan who turned over the evidence to the police.

Enclonar claimed Siarza was released from the stockade yesterday about 8:50 in the morning when Bedolido refused to file charges against her. — (FREEMAN)
