Two commit suicide in Cebu City, Barili

CEBU, Philippines - Two people died yesterday in separate incidents of suicide in Cebu City and Barili.

Arsenio Navasca, 40, of Barangay Mantayupan, Barili and Rosela Cligon, 61, of Barangay Tisa, Cebu City were found dead in their respective houses in an apparent case of suicide.

Navasca died of a single gunshot wound in his right temple while Cligon hung herself dead.

Homicide investigators found a homemade Caliber .38 revolver beside Navasca, which he used to shoot himself. SPO1 Arturo Andales said Arsenio had joined his father and his uncle for breakfast prior to the alleged suicide.

According to Andales, Arsenio left after eating and went to a nipa hut located 50 meters away from their house. Arsenio’s father and his uncle were only surprised to hear a gun fire few minutes later.

Andales said the father believes that his son committed suicide because of health problem.

“Ang gimulo ra kuno ani ang iyang tiyan nga sakit gyud kuno kaayo,” Andales said.

Cligon on the other hand was found dead hanging inside his room yesterday morning. Lorna, Cligon’s daughter-in-law, said the latter may have been depressed because of chronic illness prompting her to commit suicide. A suicide note was found by homicide investigators inside Cligon’s room.

Since January, there were already at least 12 cases of suicides reported in the different police stations in Cebu City and in the province. — (FREEMAN)
