After foiled robbery company offers CCTV cameras for Cebu City

- Jessica Ann R. Pareja -

CEBU, Philippines - A Taiwan based security solutions company offers Cebu City its closed-circuit television (CCTV) technology for P350,000 to P500,000 per set-up per intersection.

GKB Security Corporation representative Engr. Sam Yang and local distributor Francis Dy presented their proposal to City Administrator Jose Marie Poblete yesterday after they heard that the mayor is eager to pursue the city’s plans to put up CCTV cameras in strategic areas after the recent robbery that killed five.

Dy said that this technology in Taiwan is highly used in China and other parts of the world because of its efficiency and affordability.

The technology uses 3G that is used in mobile phones to transmit signal from one area to the command center.

The clips received by the command center are based almost on real time capture. The recording can be done in the camera or in the command center or both.

Dy said that what is really nice about the technology is its capability for a playback.

With its software, it can manage hundreds of surveillance cameras ideal for large scale surveillance like the city’s plan to install CCTV cameras in various areas initially within the central business district.

Engr. Eugenio Elizalde, presiding officer of the Police Coordinating and Advisory Council said that they are about to complete the study on which areas should be installed with CCTV cameras in the entire Cebu City, which has 80 barangays.

He said the installation of CCTV cameras is proposed not only to monitor crimes but to monitor traffic, fire and other disaster alarms and others.

While a budget is not yet available for a large-scale installation, the executive department mulls on using the P10-million IT enhancement fund to purchase at least 10 CCTV cameras to be placed within the business district.

GKB’s technology allows clips to be uploaded in the net so it can be accessed anywhere by authorized persons such as the police, fire department and the City Traffic Operations Management.

Dy said that the cameras can also be installed in jeepneys where robbers usually strike. All they have to do is push the panic buttons to alert the police of the alarm. — (FREEMAN)
