CEBU, Philippines - The controversy on the alleged corruption in the Armed Forces of the Philippines has no significant effect to the cadets of the Philippine Military Academy.
This was according to Civil Military Operation staff, Ltc. Jose Demar Pauly who led the 267 PMA cadets in a courtesy call to Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday.
Pauly said the cadets are aware of what is happening but they are not discouraged to pursue their dreams to become military officials someday.
Of the 267 cadets of the PMA 2014 Siklab-Diwa class, 24 are female and one of them is Maria Josefa Donadillo, from Lapu-Lapu City.
Donadillo said she is inspired by her father who is now a retired military official.
In her speech, Garcia stressed how she addressed the challenges being a woman leader.
“How I would perform will be judgment of women leaders to follow me,” she said.
Cebu is one of the usual ports of call in southern cruise and for having the base of various units of the AFP.
The cadets arrived in Cebu last Wednesday for a visit that is expected to provide them with better appreciation of the AFP organization and aid them in the selection of their preferred branch of service.
Aside from courtesy calls, they also have conducted information drives and university tours.
Yesterday morning, they also performed a silent drill at the University of San Jose-Recoletos grounds. They would perform the same at the Cebu City Sports Center at 9 a.m. today.
They will depart for Cagayan de Oro City on May 10.
The trip is also aimed at marketing the PMA by bringing the AFP and the PMA closer to the community. (FREEMAN)
