CEBU, Philippines - A former laborer was killed after he was shot by two unidentified assailants in sitio Lawis, Alaska, Barangay Mambaling around 10 a.m. yesterday.
Arnaldo Cason, 33, sustained gunshot wounds to his nape and face after being shot by the perpetrators during a brief chase.
Police Officer 3 Ruth Violango said no one could identify the suspects who fled on foot after shooting the former fisherman.
The perpetrators opened fire twice, hitting the victim who was killed on the spot.
Responding elements of the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section found Cason’s body slumped on the bridge. They recovered a.38 caliber revolver near the victim’s body.
The gun was believed to be owned by the victim, Violango said. An empty shell of .45 caliber pistol was also recovered from the crime scene.
Violango said they have not yet determined the motive of the attack.
Meanwhile, a heated argument over an unpaid debt prompted a farmer to kill his relative in Barangay Oguis, Danao City Saturday evening.
Megardo Singculan, 42, sustained three gunshot wounds to different parts of his body after he was shot repeatedly allegedly by Marino Rom, 53.
Police investigation disclosed that Singculan was walking towards the house of his daughter when Rom blocked his way.
Rom allegedly asked Singculan to pay his debt but the latter refused, saying he still did not have money.
The suspect then got angry and pulled out his .38 revolver and opened fire, hitting the victim in the mouth, back and left portion of his body.
Hours later, Rom voluntarily surrendered to barangay captain Flor-deliza Vasquez, 41 who also turned over the suspect to the police.
The suspect also surrendered his .38 revolver to the police. (FREEMAN NEWS)
