CEBU, Philippines – The regional office of the National Food Authority assured the public of a stable rice supply despite the arrival of the lean months.
NFA regional director Danilo Bonabon said that to date, they have a total of 2.5 million bags of rice stocked at their warehouse.
Bonabon explained that they are now currently unloading 400,000 bags of rice from Vietnam, saying that next week another 300,000 bags of rice will arrive from Vietnam.
“This is part of the inventory buildup for the lean months,” he told The FREEMAN.
The lean months, which have started this month, will last until September.
But with the drought that the country experienced earlier this year, the lean months are most likely extended until October.
“We are assuring the public that there is nothing to worry. We have more than enough rice supply,” Bonabon said, adding the current rice inventory is good for the next three months. (THE FREEMAN)
