Helper arrested for stealing nearly P1M worth of jewelry

CEBU, Philippines - A 24-year-old house helper was arrested for allegedly stealing almost a million worth of jewelry from her employer in Kabajar Street, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City last Saturday morning.

Eunice Pelayo Luyao, a native of Barangay Bagasawe, Tuburan, Cebu, was arrested by the police after her employer found evidence showing that she stole the jewelry.

Her employer, Monnette Gemina, 45, reportedly found inside the suspect’s room several copies of the receipts Luyao acquired from selling the jewelry items individually.

Gemina had noticed that her jewelry items were decreasing in number, making her suspect that someone was stealing from her.

Believing that the thief was her own house helper, Gemina went inside Luyao’s room when Luyao got out of the house. There, Gemina found 28 copies of the receipts indicating that the jewelry items, which she all said was hers, were sold to various pawnshops.

The lost jewelry were valued at nearly P1 million. — THE FREEMAN
