Grandson of Ouano, model swap maul raps

CEBU, Philippines - The first runner-up of Mr. Cebu 2008 landed in the hospital dawn Sunday after he was allegedly mauled by the group of the grandson of former Mandaue City Mayor Alfredo Ouano.

The alleged mauling incident reportedly happened about 3am outside the Loft bar in Asiatown I.T. Park.

Based on the medical certificate issued by Dr. Jaime Rama, the supposed victim, Norwegian Hans Joakim Kasayan Grogaard, 22, underwent suturing and debridement of lacerated wounds.

Grogaard’s brother, Martin, told The Freeman his brother had lacerated lower lip, eyelid and nose when brought to the Chong Hua Hospital right after the incident. He was eventually discharged the next day.

Martin pointed to Christopher Mangubat, Ouano’s grandson, as one of those who allegedly mauled his brother.

“Mao sad na akong gikalagutan kay ang nitabang daw og kulata sa akong manghod kay mga friends ra sad nako. Unfortunately, di na nako sila ma-contact karon. I heard they are now in hiding,” Martin said.

Based on Martin’s account, Grogaard went to Loft to follow his girlfriend, Stefanie, who also happens to be the former girlfriend of Mangubat. The two were reportedly having a good time together when a certain Marvin Roma, a common friend of Mangubat and the Grogaard brothers, allegedly pushed Grogaard.

At that point, the bar’s bouncer intervened and reportedly advised Grogaard and Roma to bring the fight outside.

Martin said it was reportedly downstairs that Mangubat’s group mauled Grogaard. Martin said he just wants justice for his brother. Martin said they spent P42,000 for his brother’s hospital bill.

Ironically, Martin was not at the bar at that time and arrived only after the alleged mauling happened.

Grogaard is a model and recently graduated from a culinary arts school in Mandaue City. His mother, Anabelle, said her son is not the type who looks for trouble.

“Giguba gyud nila ang face sa mestizo nakong anak. He is not a wild kid. Sinira talaga nila ang face ng baby ko. As in talaga. Daming tahi talaga,” Anabelle said.

Meanwhile, Mangubat’s mother, Jovita Ouano, the current barangay captain of Opao in Mandaue City, also alleged it was Grogaard who mauled her son.

In a telephone interview, Ouano told The Freeman yesterday her son had to be confined at the Perpetual Succour Hospital in Cebu City because of his injuries.

“Intawon, dia man gani mi karon sa Perpetual Soccour kay gi-IMR akong anak. Di na ni siya hapit kalakaw kay gipatid-patiran anang Hans akong anak,” Ouano said.

She said they will be pressing charges against Grogaard. - Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon and Niña G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
