Cocaine courier charged

-

CEBU, Philippines - A criminal complaint for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act will be elevated to court today against the 54-year-old tricycle driver from Bohol who was caught selling P.7 million worth of cocaine to an undercover policeman during a drug bust operation last Monday in barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City.

The criminal complaint against Vedasto Jubahid Corsiga is expected to be elevated to the Regional Trial Court today, as he did not sign a waiver of detention to avail of a preliminary investigation.

The case was supposed to be filed before the court yesterday, but due to time constraints, the criminal division no longer received the case. Violation of Section 5, Article II of Republic Act 9165 is a non-bailable offense.

Corsiga was caught by the joint operatives of the Regional Intelligence Division and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency during a buy bust operation last Monday. He delivered 12 medium sized plastic sachets of cocaine worth P720,000 to a police officer who acted a poseur buyer.

The illegal drugs was allegedly part of the cocaine bricks valued at P1.2 billion found by fishermen in Samar last December.

After verifying the information, an operation was immediately hatched, which resulted to Corsiga’s arrest.

Corsiga claimed he was only tasked to deliver the illegal drugs with a promise of 10-percent commission for every pack he is able to sell. He was claiming to have been forced to accept the job because of his quest to seek justice against the people who killed his son last year. — Fred P. Languido/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
