Philpost now 109 years, launches new services

-

The Philippine Postal Office launched its express mail pouch designed to deliver letters in one to two days only as part of the new services and products developed for its valued customers in line with the celebration of its 109th anniversary.

Aside from coming up with gift items for its patrons, Philpost is also designing a new system to address the problem on delayed mails, which is reportedly traced to the lack of proper numbering of houses across the country.

The week-long celebration with the theme “Post Office: Tugon sa Makabagong Panahon” opened last Monday, November 5, and will wrap up tomorrow, Friday, November 9.

A philatelic or stamp exhibit started yesterday that will culminate on November 12, Monday. The exhibit, at the Cebu Central Office near the Malacañang sa Sugbu building, showcases collections of stamps which serve not only as simple proofs of postage but also as miniature encapsulations of Filipino culture and history.

Robert Mondoñedo, regional postal district manager, said that due to the availability of short message services, they are now finalizing a tie-up with Globe Telecommunications so that patrons tracking down the whereabouts of their mailed letters or parcels will facilitate their inquiries through text.

And as soon as Philpost perfects the first tie-up, he said, they will open the possibility of ties-up with other telecommunications providers.

Though it was noted that there was a decrease in personal mailed letters due to text messaging and the Internet, it is a good thing that senders - both in the international and domestic scenes - continue to send parcels through the Philpost most especially November and December which are the peak seasons for mailing.

An increase in registered mails for subscription bills and business letters was also noted, he said. – Phoebe Jen Indino/MEEV
