Teenager killed in bike accident

A 17-year-old girl died while her mother and another man were injured when the motorcycle they were riding ploughed into a stockpile of sand and gravel beside the provincial road in sitio Manggahan, barangay Malolos, Barili town, last Friday evening.

One of the responding policemen PO2 Job Sarbida identified the fatality as Frances Mae Repdos, daughter of Anselma, a resident of the place.

Sarbida said that the motorcycle driven by Jinnefer Parba, 20, of barangay Cabcaban, Barili, was coming from barangay Mantalongon when they encountered an Isuzu Canter cargo truck with plate number GDV-295 driven by Samuel Igloria, 47, of barangay Mantalongon, Barili, coming from the opposite direction.

Sarbida said Parba claimed the headlights of the truck blinded him and he lost his sense of direction and drove into the stockpile.

Sarbida said Frances Mae, who was seated at the rear of the motorcycle, was killed on the spot after she was thrown off the motorcycle and her head hit the rear left wheel of the bus, leaving gruesome bloodstains on the wheel.

Her mother was able to escape serious injury after holding on tightly to Parbia. They were later brought to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Sarbida said that both drivers were temporarily detained at the police station pending appropriate charges to be filed in court against them, but he also said there might be a possible amicable settlement since both drivers are friends of the fatality's family. - Norvie S. Misa/BRP
