Man shot, fraternity links eyed as motive

A man believed to be a member of a controversial fraternity was shot in sitio Palanas, barangay Jolomaynon, Dalaguete town, last Saturday night.

Reynaldo Medel, a resident of Alcoy town, was shot by an unidentified assailant using a gun of undetermined caliber.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound in the right side of his abdomen and on his right hand.

Initial investigation conducted by responding policemen PO2 Reynaldo Amarillento and PO1 Shielo Quimat revealed that the victim was walking on his way to his aunt's house a distance away from the place of incident when the assailant suddenly shot him.

The assailant fled right away after the incident while the victim was rushed to Cardinal Rosales Memorial Hospital but later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.

During investigation conducted by the responding policemen, an informant told them that the victim was shot because he is an active member of a fraternity at their place.

PO1 Allan Sanoy yesterday said they have yet to determine if this was true, but he said reports had it that the victim is one of the many members of the Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity in Alcoy town. - Norvie S. Misa
