Housing project finished before summit kicks off this December

-
Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Ouano is optimistic the city's proposed housing project below the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge in barangay Looc will be completed before the ASEAN Summit kicks off this December, although the budget for the project has not been released yet.

Ouano said the materials that will be used for the project will all be pre-fabricated.

The Regional Development Council's project monitoring team had passed a resolution asking the National Housing Authority for the immediate release of the P100-million budget for the project.

City administrator Serafin Blanco said the RDC came up with such a resolution after learning the city government had already complied with all the requirements needed for the implementation of the project.

The proposed housing project will be used as a relocation site for the 208 informal settlers of the Paradise Island. The city considers the settlers an eyesore.

The city will be the main venue of the summit wherein 17 heads of State are expected to attend at the Cebu International Convention Center at the city's South Reclamation Area. - Mitchelle P. Calipayan
