"Bisita sa Parian" Tomorrow!

CEBU, Philippines - The public is invited to a one-night-only "bisita" (visit) to the historical Parian district, once the epicenter of society and culture in Old Cebu. Around the Cebu Heritage Monument, several pocket activities unfold from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, September 11.

Music. The Children's Joy Foundation Rondalla performs classic Cebuano music from yesteryears.

Mimes. Characters such as Magellan, Spanish soldiers, Rajah Humabon and Hara Humamay and are stationed in the area for fun photo opportunities. Donations for photos with the characters will be appreciated.

Tartanilla Rides. The horse-drawn rigs offer rides around Parian - a chance for the young generation to experience the old mode of transportation in the city. Children below 12 years old ride free.

Museums. The Yap-Sandiego ancestral house is open from 6 p.m. to12 midnight, with the famous Sandiego dancers performing in front of the house. The Jesuit House, touted as the oldest 'bahay na bato' in the country which was the residence of Jesuits until their expulsion from the country in 1768, has two museum galleries showcasing the history of Parian and the house itself; both open from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Delicacies. Café Rafael, the garden café within the yard of Yap-Sandiego House, serves Cebuano delicacies such as Carcar Lechon and chicharon with puso, as well as sikwate, torta and other native sweets, perfect for after-dinner repast.

Eskrima. An exhibition of Cebu's own martial arts is to be presented by a group trained under the leadership of Gerard Cañete, nephew of master Cacoy  Cañete, founder of the popular Doce Pares. Two performances are scheduled tomorrow night.
