New “pulutan” fare @ C2

Maria Eleanor E. Valeros - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Classic Cuisine (C2), at the fourth level of Summit Circle Hotel Cebu, highlights in a media dinner its food developments that go perfectly with beer. This is in line with the hotel’s German foodfest which underscored visiting Chef Michael Kruger’s Beef goulash with herb-bread dumplings; Salted smoked pork loin with pickled cabbage, and Fish fillet in mustard sauce with roasted onion and buttered potatoes.

Aside from serving the usual food items paired with beer like sisig and crispy pata, the new concept ensures that C2 will be offering more for the drinking crowd from 8 p.m. and onwards. Tapping German-inspired dishes to offer a variety of tastes for the long holiday is seen to entice more of the midtown-bound tourists/guests while the locals are out of town.

“We would want to offer more than the usual pulutan. Our clients have already had their serving of sisig and beer, or crispy pata and beer. So now we have these three exciting dishes prepared by our kitchen crew taking cue from Chef Kruger,” operations manager Jaybee Aquino shared.

I’m no certified food critic myself, but I do remember that goulash in Europe used to be a soup. For the C2 pulutan dish, the beef goulash was reduced to a stew to serve its purpose with beer. Most noticeable is the kick that comes with the red wine vinegar.

Meanwhile, the tenderness of the smoked pork loin and a smear of mustard did the wonders for the second dish. Later on, I discovered that aside from the mashed potatoes, pickled cabbage go perfectly with the smoky aftertaste. And the sautéed grapes impress a sweet-sour finish.

The dory fillet establishes an awesome connection with its cream-mustard sauce, so every bite is a delight. It’s good for the heart too so you go guiltless despite a tinge of beer.

For P500, each dish can be paired with any of Pale Pilsen, San Mig Lite, or a Red Horse Stallion. This is a month-long promo.

Further, soup and salad soiree go unlimited in C2’s Unli Feast. Soup and salad at P149 and pasta at P199 are available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.; coffee and cakes from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (FREEMAN)
