Mantawi festival workshop

Last Friday, March 2, the Mantawi festival organizers headed by Executive Director Alfonso Albanio and street dancing chairperson Dr. Serena Uy, conducted the Mantawi street dance festival workshop in preparation for the upcoming May 5 fiesta celebration of Mandaue City this year.

Held at the AVR of Mandaue Central School, the workshop aimed to upgrade local choreographers, P.E. instructors and dance enthusiasts of the rudiments of the festival.

This year, the competition will be composed of locals and students coming from different schools of the city - Mandaue Comprehensive, Tabok, Don Gerardo Ouano, Paknaan, Subangdako, Tipolo, Cabangcalan, Canduman, City College, Basak Elementary School, with guest participants from the Mandaue Integrated Dance Company and Mandaue School for the Arts. To add color to the festivity, festival dancers coming from Compostela, Danao, Consolacion, Bacolod and Surigao will be gracing the grand parade.

Mantawi is a mimetic dance inspired from the movements of the Mantawi vine.

Special thanks to Choreographer/Mantawi festival committee member Jun Oliver Figueroa for the invitation.
