CCTN opens 2013 with drama series ‘Baylo Ta’

Vanessa Balbuena - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Catholic Television Network (CCTN) Channel 47 is starting the year with a bang, with no less than a grand Visayan drama series co-produced by the Mandaue-based M-Talent Events & Promotions. Titled Baylo Ta, the local production is set to air its first episode this Monday, January 7, and from thereon, will have a daily weekday run for three months every 8:00-8:30 pm.

Unlike past soap operas, Baylo Ta will not delve on the travails of impoverished characters or the injustices they face. It will instead train the spotlight on a wealthy male heir named Emelio (played by Kevin Cabahug), who is poised to solely inherit a massive family fortune.

The protagonist wishes to find true love, but is also aware his riches could attract women with all the wrong intentions. In his search for a woman who would love him not for his bank account but for who he is as a person, Emelio disguises as the family chauffeur while the latter takes on his identity, thus the title.   Baylo Ta is starred in by Aida Patana (who also acted as co-producer) as the main love interest, along with acting veterans Cathy Cabahug, Bruce Garcia, Gregg Lawas, Tess Diez, Editha Cabahug, Jim Carba, Eman Flores, Epoy Caballero and Bong Gimeno. Special guests include businessman Glenn Soco, former Bb. Pilipinas-World Daisy Reyes, Star Power finalist Monica Sacay, Dane Zapanta and Nyumi. Ronnie Gonzales wrote and directed Baylo Ta, based on a popular Cebuano comedy series. Patana said she was encouraged to co-produce a local soap opera after attending a CCTN seminar, where someone broached to her the idea of trying out acting. She is positive viewers will enjoy the series which had scenes shot in Hongkong, and will also learn lessons from its storyline, such as not to judge people merely by their social status in life.
