Paolo Contis is all grown up

From a child star full of wacky antics up his sleeve, he has evolved into one fine actor who can tackle both drama and comedy with panache.

Paolo Contis is one of the most talented young actors today. And this has not gone unnoticed especially in his present mother network, which has given Paolo a string of shows and challenging roles to test his versatility as an actor.

He currently appears in the gag shows “Just Joking” and “Bubble Gang,” in the fantasy series “Fantastikman,” and in the primetime soap “Ang Mga Mata ni Angelita.”  

In “Just Joking,” he spoofs kids; in “Fantastikman,” he plays a gay villain; and in “Ang Mga Mata ni Angelita,” he portrays an errant boyfriend to the character of Isabel Oli, who incidentally is his real-life sweetheart.

When asked during an exclusive interview with The Freeman Entertainment about how he has managed to essay the different roles with confidence, Paolo said, “Sanayan na lang ‘yon, minsan mahirap kasi pabago-bago nga ‘yong character ko sa different shows. Once you’re there, you should know what to do.”

This year proves to be extra fruitful for Paolo as he is set to star in two film entries to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) this December.

These are “Risiklo” and “Banal” which are both action films. In “Risiklo,” he is a good guy, who is a scientist and sidekick to Ramon “Bong” Revilla. In “Banal,” which is an action-drama film, he plays a policeman.    

Speaking of his love life, he claimed that he has a happy and steady relationship with the Cebuana actress Isabel Oli. Paolo is only 23 while Isabel is already 26, but for him, “Age doesn’t matter and talagang mas gusto ko mas older pa sa akin yong girlfriend ko.”

Even as his role in “Ang Mga Mata Ni Anghelita” requires him not to treat Isabel well, he is not afraid of stereotyping because that is not happening in their real relationship.

Just recently, the couple came to Cebu together to attend the baptism of Isabel’s niece. Paolo also revealed that both of their families approved of their relationship.

“Open po kami sa mga families namin, minsan ako ang pupunta sa family ni Isabel at minsan naman pinapupunta ko si Isabel sa family ko naman,” he revealed.

His secrets in maintaining his energy are eating and resting well. “I no longer go out for gimmicks. I’d rather spend the time on sleeping,” Paolo said.
