Following the announcement of the extended community quarantine in Cebu City until May 15, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President, Felix Taguiam, shares with CNN Philippines: The Final Word on Friday the impact of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) on the local industry.

Executive order (EO) No. 64 imposing city-wide ECQ in the city became effective on March 28 and was initially set to end on April 28.

“A lot of businesses, especially MSMEs, have been hardly hit,” Taguiam said.

As mandated, all establishments in Cebu Cityare closed, except those that provide basic necessities like supermarkets, convenience stores, hospitals, medical clinics, pharmacies, food preparation and delivery services, banks and water-refilling stations among others.

Mass public transportation services are also suspended with strict implementation of border control.

“The essential businesses, which are supposed to help us move goods from Cebu to other cities, but certain border restrictions are controlled. We have experienced problems from employees going back to work.”

He also added that he is hoping to find a health center with rapid test kits in the city.

The Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH-7) has reported there are now 522 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in entire Cebu as of April 27, 475 of which are recorded in Cebu City.
