CEBU, Philippines — Mandaue City is considering appropriate urban planning to fully maximize the City’s potential to attract more investments.

This was announced by Mayor Jonas Cortes before the business community during an investment forum hosted Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).

Cortes said the City is nearing the approval of the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) for its comprehensive land-use plan (CLUP).

Cortes enumerated the five planned units of development (PUDs) of his government.

The first PUD is located at the Mandaue Reclamation Area, which will comprise of a Civic and Trade Center development. He said this will be Mandaue’s central business that will host high-density office and residential units.

The second PUD is the establishment of a light industrial park, which will serve as the home for high-tech firms with low environmental impact. This is envisioned to be developed through a joint venture with a private developer or lot owners.

The third PUD, a mixed-use development that will have residential and commercial buildings, while the fourth PUD will be an integrated project designated for recreation and tourism hub.  The fifth PUD will be a Medium Industrial Park development.

According to Cortes, Mandaue City government will also build a high-value manufacturing to sustain the city’s edge as industrial and manufacturing epicenter in Metro Cebu.

“I know change, or transformation is difficult, but with this fast- changing world, we do ourselves and our community injustice if we stagnate and keep the status quo. We need to evolve and jumpstart development in Mandaue,” Cortes said.
