Citadines serviced apartment to open in Cebu next month

CEBU, Philippines — Singaporean hospitality chain Ascott Limited is set to open its first serviced-apartment operations in Cebu bearing Citadines brand by July this year.

Citadines Cebu residence manager Nanette Moreno announced Thursday that 40 percent of the total 190 condotel units will be available commercially next month.

Situated at the baseline area, the property is developed by Cebu Landmasters Inc., (CLI).

CLM has entered into an agreement with Singapore-based Ascott Limited to manage the accommodation facility, renewable in 10 years.

Citadines will be the first serviced-apartment property that will be managed by Ascott outside of Metro Manila.

Ascott operates five properties in the Philippines, these are Ascott Makati, Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila, Somerset Millennium Makati, Somerset Olympia Makati, Citadines Salcedo Makati, and two more will be opened this year, all in Manila.

Present in 90 cities spanning 25 countries around the world, Ascott, a member of CapitaLand, operates three brands: Ascott, Citadines and Somerset.

Citadines Cebu is part of 1.2-hectare Base Line Center, which transforms the Cebu's old uptown landmark. Base Line used to be the sports and recreation hub in Cebu since 1973.

The entire development will offer 378 residential condominiums, 70 office units, condotel component is an additional value added proposition for the entire development, Soberano said.

Citadines Cebu City is the fourth Citadines serviced residences in the country, joining Citadines Salcedo Makati, Citadines Millenium Ortigas Manila, and Citadines Bay City Manila.

“We see great interest in Cebu, especially among young professionals and business travelers who combine their business and leisure goals at the same time. Citadines Cebu City is targeting young, independent travelers who are visiting Cebu and desire modern comforts, business connectivity and customized services, “said Daniel Wee, Ascott Limited Philippines country general manager.

Likewise, CLI president and chief operating officer Jose Soberano III said accommodation demand for Cebu is growing tremendously, downplaying the effects airbnb may bring to the hospitality sector, saying the market still pays more for good service and safety.
