Singapore-based IT firm enters Cebu with low-cost mobile PCs

CEBU, Philippines - Singapore-based Information Technology (IT) products maker, Suzuki Technology Pte Ltd., deployed mobile computers to the mainstream market in Southern Philippines offering affordable laptop, netbook products to price-conscious market.

Suzuki, which declares no relation to the Suzuki motorcycle and vehicle brand, is the manufacturer of IT products such as laptops, optical drives, memory products, Sumo-Drive and many more under house brand Suzuki.

The active market of the Philippines in terms of purchasing laptop and netbook products has prompted Suzuki to make its strong entry here, taking advantage of the brand’s affordable products, of which quality is comparable to the established global brands in the mobile PC market.

The brand entered the Philippine market in March last year in Manila, posted a monthly sales growth of 15 percent, thus the brand decided to make its strong presence in Southern Philippines, starting with Cebu, through a distribution partnership with Cebu LMI Technologies.

Just like the cellular phone, Suzuki which is now considered as a global brand in the IT industry, would like to pioneer the offering of affordable laptops and netbooks to Filipinos, offering the market with high quality hardware in pocket-friendly offer.

Since its entry in Cebu through Cebu LMI, in partnership with vendors like TechHead, Accent Micro, Perfect Star PC Shop, among others, the brand noted a high demand for net-books not only from Cebu market, but also in neighboring provinces like Bohol and Tacloban.

To strengthen its brand presence here, Ng said the company will open up a concept store, offering different kinds of Suzuki technology products, including the installation of after-sales team especially for repairs, and other services.

Ng is confident that Suzuki will be able to get stronger recognition from the Philippine market, specifically that the brand’s products are priced very competitively compared to well-known names, with laptop and net-books specifications are of quality and faster.

He said Cebu, is the brand’s gateway in its entry to the rest of Visayas and Mindanao market.

Suzuki’s entry would provide mainstream market the opportunity to own mobile computers. The pricing of netbook products is pegged not more than P15,000.

The brand is also poised to introduce inexpensive mobile PC for creative and technology-savvy market, as well as the growing online gaming enthusiasts, with hardware designed for mobile gamers.

Suzuki brand was established in 1998 and has been a reputable brand in other countries, such as Japan, Dubai, and other countries in Middle East.

In 2007, the company started its presence in Asia Pacific region, rolling out its IT products to Indonesia, Pakistan. After the strong entry in the Philippines, the company plans to conquer Australia and South American markets. — Ehda M. Dagooc
